Monitoraggio Sharing

Since 2000, AMAT, the mobility environment and territory agency of Milan, has been providing services to support municipal functions in activities relating to the development and management of the city.

As part of a project which promotes and manages the sharing mobility of Milan, INMAGIK has designed and implemented a management software and a mobile application to support the employees in charge of controlling the vehicles in sharing (cars, bicycles, scooters and electric scooters).

Thanks to the mobile application, the operators who carry out vehicles’ surveys on the road are able to create an evaluation form of the vehicle in use. The survey is made of several cards, for which different completing methods are provided: text area, multiple choice, image insertion. The application uses the GPS position of the device to track the location of the surveys automatically and is designed to simplify and speed up data collection procedures.

The application features are integrated with a web based management software implemented within the project. This software is used by the operators, who once the evaluation of the vehicles has been completed, integrate the findings with videos, which may be recorded on other devices; and also by the AMAT administrators assigned to produce periodic reports on the quality assessment of the various sharing services on the territory. Thanks to the management system, the administrators can evaluate the progress of the roadside checks, having information on the number of surveys carried out, on what vehicles and how often. The management system also allows you to create summary reports and manages reports of malfunctioning or deterioration of the vehicles.

The mobile application for the surveys was created with React Native; while Python and the Django framework were used for the implementation of the backend system and for the creation of an API which manages the communication between the mobile application and the database, for which the PostgreSQL relational database was used, including the geographical extension based on PostGIS. Generally speaking, all the tools used to implement the system are available under open licenses and do not require license costs to run.

Thanks to the modularity of the architecture, the system is open to further implementations related to data collection or additional media types, as well as integrations with other accounting systems or with proprietary systems of the sharing operators.
